Memoir Historian – Owner and Writer – 2013 to 2016
Driven to advise people of all ages to record their stories. My mother passed away in 2012 after suffering several years with Alzheimer’s Disease. In witnessing her frailty and the loss of the vibrant person she was, I realized, too late, how I wished I had taken time with her to record the family history and her life. Luckily in the mid-1990s, I did complete a 90-minute video of her telling some of the family stories. However, her full story and the knowledge of both sides of our family could have far exceeded that little digital tape. Nonetheless, I cherish what is on the digitized duplicate. Here I encourage others to write their stories.
Started this business after completing my Certificate in Personal History Writing. Created through audio recordings, a life story (on DVD) of a man nearing his 100th birthday. Worked with a long-term client on a photo book of her early days, and assisted in compiling her husband’s manuscript in preparation for its eventual submission to the Library of Congress Veteran’s Project.
Began my first official blog site with content and commentary about memoirs. Gained a wealth of information on having a personal history business, client relations, and knowledge on what makes a business work.
