The Secret Sauce recorded on June 14, 2014
For some families food is at the center of all socializing. This was true for our family too. Here I interview my niece, Yvette, about a marinara sauce that is famous in our family. It’s famous for us because my grandmother, Angelina used to make it so well that it was passed on to my mom, then to us and then to my sister’s kids, and so it goes, but that’s where it stops. It stays within the family. It is both a tradition and something sacred. My grandmother lived in the Marina District of San Francisco with my grandfather and this is where my father grew up. Noni, as we called her, used to shop in the nearby North Beach District for the ingredients in all of her recipes. A favorite stop on her shopping trips was Molinari Delicatessen. Luckily for us Molinari is still in business. We can shop there and continue the tradition that means so much to us. I hope you enjoy hearing about Yvette’s take on the sauce.
